Welcome to our travel toolbox! Everything on this page is something we’ve personally used or tested while travelling the world with two young kids. From digital tools and travel insurance to kid-friendly gear and budgeting hacks we’ve done the trial and error so you don’t have to. We only ever recommend what genuinely works for real families like ours.
Flights And Accommodation
When you’re booking flight after flight with two kids in tow the costs can mount up fast. Whilst we don’t need luxury stays, we do need clean, safe, affordable places that actually match the photos. That’s why we always shop around. These are the tools we have found to be the best. Whether we’re booking a last-minute hop across Japan or sorting a base for the week in a new city. These are the platforms we have used the most.
It’s the global market leader for a reason, unlike other sites the price you see if what you pay. No hidden fee’s once you get to the checkout page!
Can occasionally beat booking.com on price (generally in Asia). Also can hold properties that booking.com doesn’t.
Skyscanner is always first port of call to check for flights.
We’ve found long-haul deals here before that Skyscanner missed. Always worth double checking.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance isn’t a nice-to-have it’s a necessity. Especially with kids. We don’t enjoy spending money on it either, but when something goes wrong, it’ll be the best money you ever spent. After hours of research we narrowed it down to the three below providers.
SafetyWing are the market leader for those travelling long term. Its Great for flexible, long-term travel lets you start cover even after you’ve left.
What we personally use, really solid cover with no hidden extras.
A Trusted brand for adventurous and family trips
Travel Money / Cards
We’ve learned the hard way that poor exchange rates and hidden fees add up fast when you’re hopping countries. These are the accounts we use daily.
We use Revolut daily whether we’re abroad or not. It’s built for travel, but genuinely useful wherever you are. Lots of perks come with their plans as well.
We’ve used Wise to send and receive money abroad avoiding the bank fees.
Tours And Activities
With us visiting so many countries and needing to constantly book activities to keep the kids engaged, we’re always on the lookout for the best value experiences. From theme park passes to day trips and cultural tours, we check multiple booking platforms every time to make sure we’re getting the best deal because when you’re travelling long-term, every penny counts.
Sometimes has an English-facing site for activities you’d usually have to book direct in another language. Has been a lifesaver abroad. Cheap too!
Backed by Tripadvisor, this one’s great for family-friendly tours and trusted local operators.
One of our go-to platforms. Especially great for popular attractions and skip-the-line tickets.
Tripadvisor one of the biggest in the game for a reason – Trustworthy and a great variety of options
Travel Tools
When you’re travelling full-time with kids, the right tools make a big difference. These are digital bits we’ve used to keep things smooth on the road.
Your Netflix or Amazon library changes depending on where you are and trust me, Japanese Netflix isn’t all that. This helps you trick it. Plus, when you’re logging onto random Wi-Fi spots all over Asia, having a bit of protection just makes sense
Worked great for us in Japan 20GB for under £20. Quick setup, no hunting for SIM cards. Much easier than switching your physical Sim care and then needing to make sure you don’t lose it. Leave it where it belongs, in your phone.

We use Discover Cars to compare rental deals fast — it’s reliable, transparent, and finds you the cheapest deal.
We’re constantly updating this page as we travel new country, new tools, new lessons (sometimes the hard way). Bookmark it, and come back any time you need to check what we’re using.
