About Us…
We’re the O’Dwyer clan: Phil, Lucy, Philip & Lilia and welcome to our corner of the internet!
We’re a UK family of four chasing sunsets, slow travel, and slightly chaotic memories on the road.
We started this blog, Winging It Worldwide, to share honest stories from a real family who took the leap and packed up our lives to travel the world, one country (and tantrum) at a time.
But this isn’t a story that begins with a scratchcard.
It began years ago. When Lucy and I met, our dream was always to go backpacking across Southeast Asia and we did it! We motorbiked our way across Vietnam, we partied at the full moon party in Thailand, we swam with manta rays in Indonesia and between us, we’ve now visited 25 countries. Travel has always been part of our relationship. We thought we were hanging up our backpacks when we became parents but the itch never really went away and we were always waiting, planning and saving to go again but this time bringing a couple of smaller backpacks with us.
Then came a £50k lottery win.
And with it, a sign.
Not the “buy a bigger house” kind. The get-back-on-the-road-with-the-kids kind. And just like that, we were back in the game this time as a full-time family travel blog, homeschooling on the move, chasing a digital nomad lifestyle, and aiming to visit 50 countries before we turn 50.
What This Blog Is (And Isn’t)
This isn’t an Instagram-perfect, matching-hats kind of blog. It’s a backpack full of half-squashed snacks, missed connections, too many tabs open, and more laughter than we planned for.

What This Blog Is (And Isn’t)
Our Mission
We believe the world is the best classroom and the best way to reconnect as a family. We’re using this time, and this unexpected financial freedom, to try something bold and teach our kids by showing them the world firsthand.
If you’re sitting on a dream, stuck in the routine, or just looking for proof that it’s okay to do something a little reckless for the right reasons, this is your reminder. Life isn’t about the sensible choices. It’s the reckless ones that become the stories worth telling.
This blog is our record of that. A reminder to our kids and maybe to yours too. The world is a big place and our time on it limited. Starting again is always an option.
One day, Philip and Lillia when you’re off on your own adventures, I hope you’ll look back on this trip as the butterfly effect action we took – the moment that diverted your path towards adventure. If you ever need a reminder in life that the world is bigger than routine, life is meant to be explored and you can take risks, start over, do something wild just because it feels right – you’ll find it here in this book.
